Joyfully Homeschooling

Nov 2, 2018

Today's episode of the Joyfully Homeschooling Podcast is an answer to a question from a reader. Melissa asks,

How do you handle subjects you don’t like teaching or aren’t capable of teaching

Melissa, this is a great question and here are a few ways I tackle this issue.

Recognize we all have strengths and weaknesses and if you struggle in something it is okay to recognize that.

There are going to be areas where you struggle, this does not mean you are a failure. There are also areas where you are strong. Embrace those and hone in on your strengths.

Hire out/Outsource areas where you struggle

This can be done through a co-op, a friend who loves the subject you despise, or swapping subjects out with a friend focusing on the areas where each of you are strong.

Find Resources that Make you Excited to Teach

If the previous options do not work for you, then find resources that make you excited to teach.  Or find resources that help get you out of the picture through DVD or online based programs.

Homeschooling doesn't have to be a chore, and it shouldn't be. These are just a few things that have helped me through the years overcome teaching subjects that I did not enjoy. Hopefully at least one of them will help you as well.
